AI isn’t for ‘other people’

7 March 2026

A story did the rounds this week that sparked a lot of conversation here at Yellowyoyo.

It was about Medvi, a telehealth business selling GLP-1 weight loss drugs, founded by Matthew Gallagher, and how he used AI tools to build almost the entire business platform.

The New York Times reported that the business landed 300 customers in its first month, followed by another 1,000 in its second. In 2025, its first full year, it generated $401m in sales and, at that point, was still essentially a one-person business. Only after that did Matthew Gallagher hire his first and only employee, his younger brother, Elliot. According to the story, they’re on track for $1.8bn in sales this year.

At our Start the Week team meet-up, the conversation wasn’t really about the numbers. It was about what the story proves.

None of us should assume these technologies are ‘not for us’.

The gap between having an idea and testing it has shrunk dramatically. Tools that would once have required significant investment, specialist expertise or a team of people are now available to almost anyone willing to explore them.

Of course, it’s also worth staying sceptical, especially when anything health-related is involved. Speed isn’t the same as safety.

The tools are very real and increasingly accessible, but judgement, standards and responsibility still matter. As does common sense.
